Complex dictionaries

Lexonomy allows the user to develop their own entry structure, however complex it might be. Although the user can design the complex data structure in any way they like (provided they observe the NVH file format), it is highly recommended for large dictionary project to stick to the DMLex data model. If necessary, the model can be adapted to fit the needs of the concrete project.

DMLex data model

The DMLex data model defines how dictionary entry elements should be encoded and what names they should use. Such dictionaries are compatible with other dictionaries and can be amended, linked or merged in future. DMLex is directly supported by Lexonomy.

Setting up a complex dictionary

From a template (recommended)

Before developing your own entry structure, look at already existing templates marked as “extended”. They make use of the DMLex data model, and they can be further amended.

Go to NEW DICTIONARY > FROM A TEMPLATE  and look for the extended templates.

From scratch

To start from scratch, go to NEW DICTIONARY > CUSTOM DICTIONARY > SIMPLE SETTINGS and select the required DMLex elements.

Specialized entries

If your dictionary requires entry elements not present in the DMLex data model, you can add them by going to CUSTOM STRUCTURE.

You can also edit the structure at any time later by going to DICTIONARY > CONFIGURATION > STRUCTURE. Editing the structure after some entries have been created can generate these issues.
