Here are some examples of basic dictionary layouts. This is the entry structure:

Each entry can contain:

  • the part of speech
  • the pronunciation includes an audio file, transcription and a label: British or American
  • each sense consists of a definition, example sentence(s) and translation(s)

These are the data of the entry car (noun) which will be used for the preview of the layout. It contains two pronunciations labelled as British and American and two senses and the corresponding definitions, examples and translations.

For the clarity of the preview, some basic styling was used. Colours, sizes, backgrounds, borders and other visual features can be set in the STYLE panel of the layout editor.

Headword and translation

Insert two containers – one below the other (not one inside the other). Drag entry and translation into them. Change the direction of translation to vertical ⇅  to display the translation one under the other.
More elements can be added in the same way: insert a container first, then drag an element into it.

Colours, sizes, backgrounds, borders and other visual features can be set in the STYLE panel of the layout editor.
